John A. Latsch State Park
By Jim Umhoefer
Although small with little hiking opportunities, John A. Latsch State Park is still worth a visit. Challenge yourself to a half-mile steep climb up to Charity Bluff for a gorgeous view 500 feet above the Mississippi River near Winona. The 1,600-acre park has little in amenities, but is a favorite with birders who come to watch the annual spring migration of dozens of species or hope to catch a glimpse of peregrine falcons. Amenities include only a picnic area with tables and grills. There are no camping facilities.
John A. Latsch State Park is located 12 miles northwest of Winona just off the Great River Road Scenic Byway in Minnesota’s Winona County.

It’s a steep climb, but the view is worth it
