Buffalo River State Park
by Jim Umhoefer
The tall-grass prairie within Buffalo River State Park and the adjoining 1300-acre Bluestem Prairie Scientific and Natural Area combine to form one of the largest and best tracts of grassland left in Minnesota. Each spring prairie chickens perform their showy mating dances and can be viewed from special birding blinds. Buffalo River State Park is located 13 miles east of Moorhead in Minnesota’s Clay County.
