         Not too long ago I had a flat tire and therefore went to the Tire Store to get it fixed. Leaving it safely in the hands of the Tire Guys, I turned around to leave and was stopped in my tracks when a middle-aged guy said, “You’re Hurricane Bob! From the magazine.”

Itasca phenology:  Friday, September 3 started the mid-morning with temperatures hovering around 49 and wind chill values (yup, you read it correct…wind chill value) at 43 degrees!  Looks like fall is arriving!

      Over the years we've looked at tents, sleeping bags, water filters, stoves, all the usual stuff.  But, no matter how you slice it, there is a finite amount of stuff that anyone needs to get outside.  That ineluctable fact leads to a question: what, besides gear, is essential?
