The tall-grass prairie within Buffalo River State Park and the adjoining 1300-acre Bluestem Prairie Scientific and Natural Area combine to form one of the largest and best tracts of grassland left in Minnesota.
The park's 12 miles of easy footpaths give hikers a chance to see some 250 species of wildflowers and grasses. The Buffalo River bisects the park, and is the center of most activity.
A 44-site semi-modern campground (with 8 electric sites) can be busy during the summer, so reservations are a good idea.
A large primitive group camp is located downriver, close to the park's entrance.
