The Midtown Greenway is the busiest bikeway in Minnesota with up to 5,000 users per day. It has bicycle rush hours in the morning and evening. It’s plowed in the winter and lit at night and it’s open 24/7. It’s maintained by the City’s Public Works Dept, not the Park Board.
The five miles of the Midtown Greenway connects Lake Calhoun with the Mississippi River across the middle of Minneapolis and runs parallel to a diverse and vibrant Lake Street Community.
The Midtown Greenway Coalition convinced the City and County to turn this abandoned railroad ditch into Midtown Greenway for bikers and walkers. Their mission is to empower communities to develop, improve, protect and enjoy the Midtown Greenway as a green urban pathway.
