Pope County. 5 miles south of Starbuck; park entrance is off of County 41. Highway map index: E-14.

Glacial Lakes State Park is not "on the way" to another destination, so the folks who bother to come here want to stay while. Visitors are rewarded by several spring-fed lakes surrounded by virgin prairie and a virgin oak forest. Mountain Lake, at 56 acres the park's largest, is tucked in a rectangular valley rimmed by high hills.

The hills in the 1,900-acre park, like the lakes, ponds and marshes, were formed by the last glacier as it receded some 11,000 years ago.
