Border Route Trail
This is an advanced wilderness trail, mainly for backpackers with abilities to follow a very minimally maintained trail. Maps and compasses are a must as the trail is often obscured by blow-down areas or overgrowth. The terrain is very difficult at times with a number of areas studded with glacial rock. In the summer, black flies and heat can make the trail uncomfortable. Other than that, it is fantastic hiking.

Border Route Trail condition
You'll find the BRT in much better condition in 2012 than the posted description would lead one to believe. The sections outside of the Wilderness receive a deadfall sweep annually and a full brushing sweep at least every other year and more often in those spots deemed necessary.
The best hiking conditions will be found in the spring and fall with June to be avoided.
