Minnesota is known for its seasonal openers; the Fishing Opener, Hunting Opener and now, the
Park Rapids Chamber of Commerce is introducing the Minnesota Bike Opener. Scheduled for 2015 on Saturday, May 16th (the weekend after Fishing Opener) we are going to bring together a celebration of all things Bike!
“It just makes so much sense,” says Chamber Executive Director, Nicole Lalum, “The Heartland Trail is one of the first rail-to-trail projects in the country and we see countless cyclists from around the world each year because of the scenic beauty of the trail. I just hope that everyone will come and join this event to enjoy what we have in our own backyard.”
The dedication ceremony of Red Bridge Park and the
official opening of the new bridge over the Fishhook River will begin the festivities followed by a family-friendly, costumes encouraged, non-competitive 2, 12 or 22 mile bike ride on the Heartland Trail.
Other activities slated to be included are a bike swap, demonstrations, bike safety courses and tricycle races, kids activities and more. While supplies last, everyone who participates will receive a
complimentary helmet and be entered in to a drawing for prizes.
May is National Bike Month and Park Rapids is going to celebrate in style.
