Rochester has sped away with a “Bicycle Friendly Community” award from the American League of Bicyclists.  The city is one of only 21 communities nationwide to be honored by the organization and among just five west of the Mississippi River.
Eli Golden was impressed at how straight and fast ten people could paddle down the Mississippi River when everyone worked together.             “I’m big on nature and there was some big nature on this river today,” said Golden of his three and half hours of paddling in a 23-foot Voyageur styled 10-passenger canoe.
The gold finches have turned yellow, the buds on the trees are turning to leaves and a paving machine has laid new asphalt on a major portion of the Paul Bunyan Trail between Guthrie to Walker.

Marine cross-country ski race returns Jan. 31   MARINE ON ST. CROIX - The 39th Annual Marine on St. Croix/O’Brien Cross-Country Ski Race will be held Sunday, Jan. 31 at William O’Brien State Park.   The park is located 12 miles north of Stillwater and one mile north of Marine on St. Croix, on Minnesota 95.
Minnesota state parks and state trails will host 30 candlelight events this winter, including a New Year's Eve walk-and-skate at Fort Snelling State Park. The Minnesota DNR says the family-friendly events provide an opportunity to ski, snowshoe or hike through woods and prairies on trails illuminated by the warm glow of candles.
