Namekagon River
Event Date and Time

Don’t miss this summer’s annual Southwest canoe trip for a great weekend on the Namekagon River.  Great canoeing, great food, great times, and more - It’s a tradition with Southwest.  The Namekagon is one of Wisconsin’s most scenic canoeing rivers.  We’ll be taking air-conditioned vans up there on Friday night to Jack’s Canoe Campground.  After breakfast on Saturday, our vans will drop us off upstream, and we’ll spend the day paddling about 13 miles back downstream.  We’ll take out about midway on the river, and Sunday’s canoeing will start at this midpoint (we’ll end up at the campground on Sunday).  Several members of our staff will be staying at the camp to keep an eye on our gear while we’re canoeing).  Enjoy one of our great gourmet dinners on Saturday night – not to mention “The Dessert!”  The next day, after breakfast, we’ll start our canoeing from our Saturday take-out point.  This is a “civilized” canoe trip: You’ll only need to bring your lunch & water in the canoe – everything else will stay in the campground.  We’ll provide all the canoe gear, food, etc.  The trip fee is based on having two people riding in a canoe.

The Namekagon is an excellent canoeing, fishing and swimming river (It’s designated as a Federal “Wild & Scenic River”).  It has a nice sandy bottom, and occasional #1 & #2 rapids.  Both novices and experienced canoeists will enjoy it.  All participants will be provided with life jackets, as there is always a risk of a canoe tipping over – even on a calm lake.  There is a mandatory meeting for all participants on Wednesday, May 12, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Southwest.

The vans will leave the Chowen Ave. parking lot at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night, and we’ll return there at 9:45 p.m. on Sunday.  Cost:  $95.00 (cost covers transportation, all your meals, canoes & gear, camping fees, and camping supplies).
