What do you like about
this trail: It’s a well-
groomed, wide trail with scenic views of several lakes and small Minnesota towns. It’s located in close proximity to several excellent resorts and is directly across the highway from Fritz’s campground outside of Nisswa if you prefer to camp.
Favorite trail: The Willard Munger State Trail between Hinckley and Duluth is our favorite trail as it was the site of our first 120-miler (one-day ride). There are several good stops along the way including camping at Banning State Park. The northern portion along the St. Louis River provides breathtaking scenery.
Annual average miles: 1200-1500 miles
Gear: Trek T2000 Tandem; Trek Team Discovery jerseys; Pearl Izumi shorts; Shimono shoes; and Giro helmets.
Advice: Bike with a good friend as it makes for the great conversation and an enjoyable ride.
Favorite trail treat: One of our favorite summertime stops along the Paul Bunyan Trail is located in Pine Creek. There is a small fresh produce vendor that sells the sweetest and juiciest peaches in the Midwest.
