Root River begins resurfacing

A long-awaited overlay of new asphalt is the focus of maintenance work on the Root River Trail this summer. Parts of the original trail are being rehabilitated between Fountain Lanesboro.

In addition to new surface, the trail is being widened to ten feet, from the old eight foot width.

The new surfaced trail is finished between Fountain and the Old Barn Resort access road. Work continues between the Old Barn Resort access road and downtown Lanesboro. Only about five miles of the 60 mile trail system is presently closed.

Trail enthusiasts will not have to wait long to enjoy the new trail surface. Work is scheduled to be completed by July 30.
