Cold temperatures didn’t deter enthusiastic members of the Lakes Area Bike Club from participating in their seventh annual Perham Holiday Lighted Parade on the Friday after Thanksgiving. They also participated in the Otter Tail parade the next day.
Lakes members believe when people get off the couch and onto a bike good things can happen to their health and wellbeing.
The Perham based group that was founded in 2002 has 125 members throughout West Central Minnesota participated in Tuesday night rides each summer.
They offer their lighted parade unit available to all members wanting to use it in their communities. It folds into the bed of a pickup truck and takes four people to operate, two riding the bikes and two walking on each side.
In the past they have made a lighted Christmas tree out of bicycle tires. They have plans in the works to mount a TV on a bike.
The group also sponsors cross country ski in the winter as well as canoe events in the summer.
