View the Cascades

Nearly every park along Lake Superior’s North Shore has a waterfall, but Cascade River has mesmerizing cascades which add to the beauty.

“The series of small waterfalls on the Cascade River are absolutely beautiful,” said Asst. Park Manager Kate Flitsch. “I always direct visitors there first.”

With trails that lead to the river and along Lake Superior, the park is an ideal place to hike and picnic. “The cascades and high falls are a quick, easy walk from the main parking lot,” said Flitsch. “Another fun hike is to Lookout Mountain for a great view of Lake Superior.”
Flitsch also added that a little known secret of the park is its great picnic grounds located right on the shore of Lake Superior. “Hardly anyone knows it’s there, so it’s seldom used. But it’s a beautiful, ideal location for picnics and enjoying the lake.”
